Meet Monty – Your Next Adventure Buddy!
🐾 Breed: Mudi
🎂 Age: 2 years
📍 Fostered in: Liberty, NC
Monty is a striking and talented Mudi who’s ready to leap into his forever home! This boy has spent the past year in loving foster care, and thanks to consistent training, patience, and dedication, Monty has truly blossomed.
Monty had a rough start to life - he was born in Virginia, but his breeder was unable to sell him or his littermates. The puppies missed out on critical socialization periods and, after the breeder became overwhelmed with so many young dogs, the family was headed to a local shelter. The local Mudi community stepped up and took responsibility before things got worse.
An athlete at heart, Monty lives for frisbee and dock diving. He’s already started competing in public and is thriving in that environment! Additionally, we feel that Monty would excel in detection work. He has been introduced to livestock and showed interest, and could do more with the right handler. Whether you’re looking for a performance partner or just want a fun, active companion, Monty’s energy, focus, and drive make him a dream for the right handler.
Monty is:
✅ House trained
✅ Crate trained
✅ A great traveler
✅ Dog-social (with most dogs)
✅ Neutered and fully vetted
Monty does best with slow, thoughtful introductions to new people. Once he knows you, he bonds deeply and becomes a loyal and affectionate companion. His reactivity is now well managed, and he’s comfortable and confident in a structured routine. Obviously, there will be a transition period, but we are confident that a patient, dog-savvy handler can manage with little difficulty.
Monty currently lives in a home with numerous other dogs of multiple breeds (toy poodles, Mudis, Aussies, mixes) and gets along well with everyone. We are still working on his “settle skills” with other dogs out, and Monty enjoys a quiet couch snuggle in the evening. He’s also happy to curl up in a dog bed calmly while his foster mom works from home. He has shown no aggression toward the cats or poultry on the property, either. He travels very well, kennels quietly in the van at events, and has come a long way with his leash manners recently.
Ideal Home:
Monty will thrive with someone who understands working breeds and is willing to continue his positive training. He’d love an active home where he can keep up his favorite sports and have room to run, play, and connect with his people. A quieter household without too many strangers in and out would suit him best. Monty would not thrive in a dense neighborhood setting, and is not an apartment dog or a townhome dog.
If you’re experienced with dogs who need a little time to trust—and you want a devoted partner in sport and in life—Monty may be your perfect match.
